Needing to take a few days
off I have two days of more tourist-like things planned. The Monkey Forest is an
absolutely gorgeous forest in the middle of Ubud dedicated to monkeys. I’m sure
many of you already know about this, but for those who do not, the Monkey
Forest is a beautiful tropical forest full of beautiful sculpture...
trails, pathways,
bridges, huge trees, rivers, an open-air theatre, multiple temples, and monkeys. Monkeys are a big part of Balinese mythology
and culture. They are respected, honored, imitated, revered, mythologized, and
especially in this park: protected.
There is an extensive system of monkey families here. Check it out.
I wondered down a narrow pathway and stumbled onto the monkey maternity ward and pre-school:
